hmmm, that sounds almost like a statistical conundrum to me. Not sure which half I fall in!

We aren't a democracy...we're an oligarchy (even with the CONDEM alliance)
Steven - very good post and no whiff of Sir Humphrey at all.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, Merlot in one hand, Cigar in the other; body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "WOO HOO, what a ride!

Private Eye picked up on possible/probable changes to planning regulation in their current issue. Haven't got the exact details to hand but it had something to do with not allowing newts to stand in the way of building. As most contractors seem to care more about not getting fined for animal welfare issues such as newts, badgers and dormice than about archaeology, it isn't hard to imagine that archaeology is going to come off badly in any future review.xx(

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation has flagged this one and I imagine that ALGAO are also lobbying strongly about it behind the scenes:

Basically, Listed Building and Conservation Area legislation can be ignored by the neighbourhood planning provisions within the Localism Bill. One also assumes of course that provisions in PPS5 covering archaeology are also ignored. Hopefully it's just the DCMS forgetting to get involved and it'll be sorted out before the Bill is finalised. Now go lobby yer MP...

A clear material breach of the Valetta convention then.

I've raised this on the digital democracy...
http://www.digitaldemocracy.org.uk/
That has re-launched nationally after its local trial.
If everyone registers and votes for my proposal it will be passed onto the MP's
democracy in action!

Thanks Kevin..........the more noise that is made the better.
But I don't hold out much hope unless someone 'important enough' champions our cause
