Quite right Mercenary. Most people can make the link simply by using one of those characters who have worked for every unit in the country...but only once! I have the same conversations even today. They go along hte lines of "You were at Fulchester, do you know <insert name of notable character with strange hat/hair/behavioural problem>? 90% of the time, the answer is either "yes" or "no, but I know someone who does".

Before anyone does ask, I'm not advocating testing this theory out on line (AUP and all that), but I bet we all know the same characters.
