As people will have noticed the Google adverts running down the side of these pages pick up what people write in the text and usually missunderstand them slightly, sometimes these are quite mundane; posts on the Loose Ends thread about aerial photos are currently plastered with adverts for TV aerial installers; solicitors, ever alert to the possiblity of people suing each other, are currently advertising on the Fraud and Plagiarism page.
On other pages the adverts may or may not be appropriate. On the Afganistan thread I started this morning postings have been accompaned by adverts for the bible (picking up on references to religion in the text, but probably the last place on earth you would want to sell bibles); relocation companies offering to help people move to Afganistan, "Planning a move to Afganistan" er no: Ukrainian women (see human rights record); Oxford Archaeology East and sadly perhaps the only the only relevant advert, an art loss in conflict zones campaign.
There also seems to be a bit of a scientology campaign going on; the official church of scientology, founders message "I am getting into religion because that is where the money is", has chosen the Double Standards page to advertise its message. I inadvertantly clicked on Unit of 1's BAJR page instead of the latest post icon and found that it is currently advertising links to the 'truth about scientology' and 'Gods True Church', which is apparently based in Glasgow.
I am not complaining about BAJR carrying adverts, I thought might just be worth opening an intermitent thread for people to record bizarre adverts which misconstrue the text written in the postings. Many of these adverts appear to be fleeting, only staying up for a short time.
