I have to admit that I haven't subscribed to Britarch for a very long time (at least 8 years!). I found it either interesting or annoying even then.
I think that the advantage of a forum such as BAJR is that you can follow a specific thread far more easliy. If a different thread annoys you or isn't of interest, you can ignore it. Plus it's much easier to check back over what's been said without clogging up your email with loads of stuff (I'm enough of a hoarder without that!!)

I do subscribe to britarch, I just have a long, and growing list of people whose emails go straight into the delete folder. I have not had a message in ages...

Here or on Britarch?
Archaeology and heritage and stuff - sounds cool to me. [8D] It strikes me that what the original post mentioned was not the content on Britarch, which often has a lot of good points, but the perhaps slightly over the top manner in which those points are expressed (I was going to use 'histrionic' but thought that might be over the top....)}
Also, I have noticed that, because we can easliy read back over what we have said as well here, it is easier to admit that the way something comes across might not quite be the way we'd intended. The proper smilies help too (although the hmmm doesn't seem to work? [hm]) So you get more apologies on this forum and things are a bit clearer.
All in all, the format of the forum and the AUP are helpful to slightly more reasonable (if not reasoned!) debate.
