G`day. What sort of criteria would you like to see in place? On a jovial note-did`nt a newspaper poll vote Tony Robinson as the most popular archaeologist in the UK? Don`t particularly want to see him heralded as the canines testicles in years to come!!!
So criteria please.....

Tony Robinson is an archaeologist now? help!! pop archaeology does a lot of damage to the general undrstanding of what we professionals do. is it really true that theoretically in thE UK one could 'excavate' a site out of pure curiousity / greed etc. with no degree or training of any kind?

Provided it's not scheduled, and of course you either own it or the landowner agrees, yes.
You could stretch a point and argue that an archaeological excavation is development and requires a planning application I suppose.

Chris "Citizen" Smith!
Only a humble digger but, very tidy in his work, thourough, pleasent company, always on time, contientious, good fun,badly dressed (camo gear usually).
Probably the best archaeologist I will ever have the dubious pleasure of working with!!
His only fault, he's from Hull!!!!

Aye, it means he turns up for work in Wales in mid-winter wearing a tee-shirt and camo trousers, them northern boys make the rest of us look over dressed with three coats on and the usual site gear!
I picked him up once on a cold day and he asked me to put the air-con on because he was too hot. And he was serious!!

My fave line from TT yesterday.... Francis Pryor asserrting they had discovered a new dating technique... mortar analysis... ouch... cut me and I bleed... as a building archaeologist that is what we do!!

Rick cleal (essexs based) for being a superb field archaeologist, fantastic sense of humour in the face of all adversity! Haven't seen him since the earlier 90's. if not still working in the field could we not have an award for those no longer with us.
