Fake Irish Company?? |

Rathmullen Archaeological Services placed an advert on BAJR back in August... looking for Directors..
Quote:quote:Rathmullen Archaeological Services... seeking one director: wanted for an upcoming project in the area around Drogheda. Must have prior directing experience, preferably in Ireland. Must also have some publication or report writing experience. SafePass essential.
Application is by email only. We thank all who apply, but only those selected for interview will be contacted.
I have now become concerned that this company does not indeed exist and that Steven Branigan (if he exists) who is not replying to emails
seanchasarch@eircom.net is either a fake name OR has had his name used maliciously.
the address given of
25 Narrow West Street Drogheda does not seem to be their address - and a friend of BAJR has been to the street looking for them.
If anyone has any information or applied for the job - please get in touch... as BAJR tries to ensure that jobs are 'real' ... this has happened only twice before in 7 years... and so my concern is for you all.
I am hoping it is just a simple misunderstanding, and that it can all be sorted out... however... all communications should be sent direct to my email address info@bajr.org
I will let people know what the outcome is. :face-huh:

Message from the newly appointed researcher for the History, Classics and Archaeology Subject Centre within the Higher Education Academy.
She is currently working on a research project which is interested in archaeology graduates and in particular the types of jobs and careers archaeology graduates enter.
She is now looking for archaeology graduates to take part in this research project.
The survey: https://www.heacademy.ac.uk/survey/arch
Any takers? or pass it on to people who might be interested?

I thought you may be interested to note the new advert for Albion have gone on at £15,153 - £18,430.
£15,153 reflects entry level and so is essentially a training post - with careeer progression to the next level up.
The top end of the post (£16,536 - £18,430) represents an experienced digger who is able to work independently, look after a small area of site, perhaps working towards supervisory level.
Could this be the start? worth thinking about :face-huh:

Protest: Proposed Closure of TCC |

Got this in my email and thought it should receive some BAJRite support:
Dear all
It would be really helpful if you were willing to sign the on-line petition against the closure of the Textile Conservation Centre ? if you haven?t already done so.
The TCC is the leading international organisation in the field of textile conservation research, education and practice. Students of conservation, conservation science and museums and galleries study alongside each other, so building a mutual understanding of the wider sector in which they will work. MA Textile Conservation is considered the leading course internationally, with the majority of trained textile conservators around the world having studied at
TCC. The Textile Conservation Centre (TCC) was established as an independent charitable trust in 1975. Based in Hampton Court Place from 1975-1999. Merged with the University of Southampton in 1998 and moved to a custom-designed building on Winchester School of Art campus in 1999.
The University of Southampton proposes to close TCC commencing summer 2008 with full closure by September 2009, with the loss of all jobs and courses.
This petition is to hopefully prevent the closure of such an important academic institution which has a distinguished history and international reputation and to secure the jobs of leading academics within this field.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but being of a certain age where I can remember the economic downturns of the early nineties, and its effects on the archaeology industry (eg the MoLAS diaspora). Could we be heading that way again? The world markets are extremely volatile and many economists predict further fallout from the credit crisis. The construction industry is based upon money borrowing. Banks may begin to decline lending to developers or charge so much interest that development becomes uneconomical.
