Jsut a quick note to anyone who has ordered tools from past horizons tool store
http://www.pasthorizons.com/shop
the postal strike has resulted in a backup of deliveries.. so first class (for example) in the UK has now been taking up to 2 weeks to get delivered... seems things are getting back on track... but apologies to any who have not had the delivery yet.
Out of our control I'm afraid.... but apologies anyway
Maggie
Past Horizons
ps.. if you don't get an order soon... please get in touch.

"....an archaeologist need know no more about the recent past than a geologist a postman or a dentist...."
OR
"An archaeologist is defined as a person who studies ancient cultures by the examination of ancient remains .. and as ancient is defined as very old it is only to be used for study in Britian of remians prior to the Roman Empire..."
.... can't say more than this is an architect..who is not happy about the term Buildings Archaeology...
:face-huh:
is he right? is he half right? does he have a point or is he not...
I define archaeology as encompassing the study of human cultures through material remains.. now if thats a pillbox or a spitfire.. a 19th century workers cottage or a Roman fort.. then thats what we do? Or do we? are we straying into places we are not wanted?

The ADS and the Council for Scottish Archaeology are pleased to announce the online release of Discovery and Excavation in Scotland 1947-2001:
http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/library/des/index.cfm
Discovery and Excavation in Scotland (DES) is an established annual journal, published by the Council for Scottish Archaeology (CSA), which records all fieldwork undertaken and discoveries made in Scotland during the preceding year. It is a critical resource for archaeological research, and is unique in Europe. This release of digitised versions is the result of a major project to scan the complete run of DES, from the earliest typescripts in 1947 onwards, it was generously funded by the Russell Trust and produced with the support and assistance of the Archaeology Data Service.
These volumes, available together for the first time, are a significant resource for all those interested in the archaeology of Scotland as well as the development of the discipline itself over more than fifty years.
Regards, Stuart.

On BBC 4 this Sunday, a whole evening of archaeology programmes:
8.10 The Treasures of Tutankhamun (archive programme from c. 1972)
9.00 Digging the Past (how archaeology became a hit on TV beginning in the 1950s)
10.00 Silbury: the Heart of the Hill
11.00 Sir Mortimer Wheeler: a Life in Ruins (repeated at 8.30 on Monday)
Also, at 7.00, episodes 1-3 of a John Pertwee Doctor Who where he goes to an archaeological dig where a tomb is acting as a cell for ancient evil!
Episodes 4-5 are on Monday at 7.40.
Enjoy! boy I love the Dr Who episode... the scary mummy gatekeepers.. !
