Postal Strike - Past Horizons Tool Store
Posted by: BAJR Host - 25th October 2007, 11:42 AM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (1)

Jsut a quick note to anyone who has ordered tools from past horizons tool store
http://www.pasthorizons.com/shop

the postal strike has resulted in a backup of deliveries.. so first class (for example) in the UK has now been taking up to 2 weeks to get delivered... seems things are getting back on track... but apologies to any who have not had the delivery yet.

Out of our control I'm afraid.... but apologies anyway

Maggie

ps.. if you don't get an order soon... please get in touch.

  What do you think?

"....an archaeologist need know no more about the recent past than a geologist a postman or a dentist...."

OR

"An archaeologist is defined as a person who studies ancient cultures by the examination of ancient remains .. and as ancient is defined as very old it is only to be used for study in Britian of remians prior to the Roman Empire..."

.... can't say more than this is an architect..who is not happy about the term Buildings Archaeology...

:face-huh:

is he right? is he half right? does he have a point or is he not...

I define archaeology as encompassing the study of human cultures through material remains.. now if thats a pillbox or a spitfire.. a 19th century workers cottage or a Roman fort.. then thats what we do? Or do we? are we straying into places we are not wanted?

Discovery and Excavation in Scotland - Online
Posted by: BAJR Host - 23rd October 2007, 11:01 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (7)

The ADS and the Council for Scottish Archaeology are pleased to announce the online release of Discovery and Excavation in Scotland 1947-2001:

http://ads.ahds.ac.uk/catalogue/library/des/index.cfm

Discovery and Excavation in Scotland (DES) is an established annual journal, published by the Council for Scottish Archaeology (CSA), which records all fieldwork undertaken and discoveries made in Scotland during the preceding year. It is a critical resource for archaeological research, and is unique in Europe. This release of digitised versions is the result of a major project to scan the complete run of DES, from the earliest typescripts in 1947 onwards, it was generously funded by the Russell Trust and produced with the support and assistance of the Archaeology Data Service.

These volumes, available together for the first time, are a significant resource for all those interested in the archaeology of Scotland as well as the development of the discipline itself over more than fifty years.

Regards, Stuart.

Also, at 7.00, episodes 1-3 of a John Pertwee Doctor Who where he goes to an archaeological dig where a tomb is acting as a cell for ancient evil!

  Getatrowel anyone??
Posted by: stonecirclegirl - 18th October 2007, 08:25 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (15)

Hi Big Grin

It's been ages since I've popped in but thought you may be able to help with a question.... does anyone know what has happened to getatrowel? [?]

I ordered items totalling about £40 over 6 weeks ago and as yet no sign of them. I have tried and tried to contact getatrowel but no matter how (email, phone, contact form)I can get no response. I am becoming concerned as to what has happened to my order... and my money. Have I missed something? Are they no longer trading?

A friend ordered a trowel from the site at the start of August(ish) and received it within a week. Has something happened to the company since then? I'm confused.....:face-huh:

If someone, anyone could enlighten me I would be eternally grateful. I've ordered from the company in the past and received prompt service... I don't want to give up on them as I think they are a fab site.

Help! Sad

'There is no great genius without some touch of madness'... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it

  SCRIBD... a document sharing site
Posted by: BAJR Host - 17th October 2007, 09:05 AM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (10)

Scribd is a site where you can store your documents - doc, ppt, pdf, xls, etc and share them with others. You can also embed a document in your blog or web page.

Just an example of what I am doing now as well...
http://www.scribd.com/people/documents/1...d-connolly

it was super simple... and would be a good repository for reports... ! that could be directly linked to from your own site, without taking up space on your server!... and is more accessible than OASIS.. Smile though of course that is essential.
