Lost Roman Fort? |

I received this message today from a good friend in Canada:
I would appreciate some wide views about what he should do.. rather than me just putting my own tuppence forward. (which I will as well.!)
Here is the post. and below is the image. many thanks
Quote:quote:I would like your opinion regarding my next trip to the UK. I'm a little lost and don't want to embarrass myself, or waste a boatload of my time on something daft. I have been sitting on this for over a year now, and feel that I have to do something or let it go.
One day many years ago, I came up with a little theory regarding the Roman military occupation of Lancashire, as is my wont, and I started to follow the data to see if the theory could be proved (everyone needs a hobby.) I ended up following a very long, hard trail of quite circumstantial clues, stringing together a load of disjointed information, and I ended up with a spot where I thought there would have to be something. I called up some aerial photographs of the spot and ended up very quickly with the attached photo.
As you can see, it is in the classic playing card shape, and is approximately 5 acres in size, the right size for a cavalry fort. It has rounded corners, which indicate a definite Roman possibility. I'm not saying it is, but it sure looks to me as if it could be...
Here's my question, how should I approach this? Forget about it? The trail was signposted with questionable science and littered with intuition. It is also quite contrary to current thought on the area. It would be very hard, due to the information being very disjointed, and the theory developing over the course of many years, but should I try to write a little report on the trail that I followed?
Any advise you could give would be most appreciated.

have recently finished working for a company that didnt pay sickpay for diggers (only office staff but thats a whole other issue) but when we were sick we had our subsistance money docked as well! Surely is adding insult to injury? Isnt the purpose of subs to give you money to live on and dont sick people need food too? Anyone know the legality of this?

Some time ago I found an ad for work with the UN in Iraq, excavating mass graves... Due to outside pressures, I couldn't apply. I'd like to do it now, but can't find anything about it anywhere... I don't even know if it's still going on! Anyone know anything?

Digging up your own past |

One of my staff has been researching her family history for the last few months. She has just discovered that her great-great-uncle worked in an ironworks, a site that we excavated about three or four years ago. She worked on the excavation (obviously before realising that her ancestor had also worked on the site).
I found this quite amazing, and wondered if anyone else had excavated (or had heard about someone excavating) the home or workplace of one of their own ancestors?

Hello all,
Just wondering if anyone can help with some references.
As some of you are probably aware I'm looking at the proximity of henges to rivers for my dissertation,(and the results from the GIS are blooming interesting let me tell you!)
I'm currently trying to find a paper or book that talks about the use of rivers as boundaries, and also something that talks about the use of monuments as markers in the lasdscape.
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated, and if you're interested in the results drop me a line and I can explain all about the thrilling conclusions I have come to!! (But not till after hand in on Tuesday!!)
Cheers
Rachel
