Mr Hosty,
Tis time for us all to take a moment and applaud you soundly for BAJR mark I. BAJR is a fantastic achievement, it is an absolute must when job-hunting, a brilliant discussion forum, and a real sign of changing times. It has gone far far beyond a simple jobs service, to become a real and regarded voice in archaeology, with huge potential for changing much which many of us are unhappy with.
With such a precedent, BAJR mark II has an awful lot to live up to, but I think we're all here confident that it will be an even bigger success! Right now, I would like to thank you for the unimaginable amounts of time and effort you have put into BAJR, and I think everyone else will agree.
So let's hear it for Mr Hosty (Rousing chorus to see out the old and ring in the new!)
Hip hip hurray
Hip hip hurray
Hip hip hurray!
For he's a jolly good fellow,
For he's a jolly good fellow,
For he's a jolly good fellow,
Which nob'dy can deny.
Which nob'dy can deny.
Which nob'dy can deny.
For he's a jolly good fellow,
For he's a jolly good fellow,
For he's a jolly good fellow,
Which nob'dy can deny.
Congratulations and good luck with the relaunch.

Intrested to know about other units or museum bodies discard policies for finds. Usual problems of lack of storage at both unit and County level so will have to start serious discussions about implementing one at this end.

Just a quickie....
Over the past months I`ve noticed a good trickle of new subscribers-some with questions, some with thorns, some with the giggles! This can only be a good thing-more voices please. There are still a goodly few undergrads and newbies who look perplexed when one mentions bajr-even some old hacks out there who still don`t know of our little community here. Mr Hosty will be mailshotting soon for our first conference-lets hope the lead-up to the event can draw more opinions to our table.
A belated WELCOME to all the new voices here, lets play.......

Archaeological pay rises 2006 |

Happy May Day to one and all.
I have introduced a new page to my OutWageUK blog detailing archaeological payrises for 2006.
The payrises are calculated by comparing 2005 and 2006 advertised wages and whilst it is early days yet (I have only recorded rises in 14 archaeological employers), I intend to continue monitoring rises as and when they come in.
The new table can be seen by clicking onto the Payrise 2006 sidebar at http://www.freewebs.com/outwageuk
This last month has also seen Outwage log the 100th employer, requiring the services in some form or another of an archaeologist in the past 13 months (infact we are now up to 102). This is far more than I ever realised when I began OutwageUK and I leave it up to individuals to adjudge whether such a large number of employers is a good or a bad thing. Interestingly I can think of at least 30 'bodies' who employ archaeologists but whom haven't needed to advertise for staff in the past year (and therefore dont appear on OutwageUK). How many archaeological employers are there out there?

This thread is where you outline welfare issues (no names/places) that confront you in the field.E-Mail me offline and I will pass them onto my colleague in HS.Examples include:
1. No toilets/one turdis for 600 million incontinent diggers
2. No hot water hand washing facilities
3. No cabins
4. No staff who give a toss
