Troll applies to join the IFA
Posted by: troll - 27th April 2006, 04:11 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (63)

A change of heart no less. Recent conversations have convinced me that together, the IFA, BAJR and Prospect can change the things we need to change.Tiz a circular arguement (my apologies 1man1desk)- we all need to join the IFA if the IFA are to have any teeth.Ever.I`m sick to near death of malpractise and blatent unprofessionalism (contrived muppetry) and am willing to eat my past words. Rolling snowballs only get bigger and crash through fences if and when-snow sticks to it on the way down.....Join the IFA. If I`m horribly wrong-you can all take a ticket and beat me like a Chipperfield monkey.Big Grin

  Scaum enquiry
Posted by: Troll - 27th April 2006, 02:39 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (11)

Just a quickie.......
We still have no coherent response from Scaum relating to the placement of their HS publication within all site huts (if your lucky enough to have ANY welfare facilities at all that is) and would welcome at least an acknowledgement that we exist. It would go without saying that it would help no end if unit managers were to stand up and help us out here......

  Tony Robinson says...
Posted by: Troll - 27th April 2006, 10:18 AM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (22)

Morning all....

After a good few years of calling this guy all the names under the sun, I have been lucky enough to enter dialogue with a man who has worked with him.It seems that Tony is in fact passionate about the current state of play in "modern" British archaeology.I have also just read Tony`s letter in the recent issue of the CBA mag and I have to say- Nicely said Tony! His main thrust is that if we want anything done then we "should get loud"......sound familiar?
Thankyou Tony.As a household name associated with archaeology, should we not enter into dialogue with Mr Robinson?Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

  Flintknapping Workshops
Posted by: Flintknapper - 26th April 2006, 02:06 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (2)

Hi

I am PA to Karl Lee, one of the countries leading Flintknappers with over 15 years experience. Karl is looking to run some one-on-one workshops to teach people how to flintknap.
Please see below for a reference for a workshop student:

"I spent three very enjoyable days with Karl, during which time my flintknapping skills improved hugely. From the moment I stepped through the door, Karl made me feel very welcome in his home, and the tea's didn't stop flowing until I left (which is very important in my book)! Karl is not only a very relaxed, fun and patient guy, but clearly also has a very deep appreciation and understanding of the practical skills underpinning many prehistoric technologies. I was particularly encouraged by his unwavering positive attitude when it came to flintknapping - whenever my hand-eye coordination let me down Karl would get me thinking about the best way to work around the problem. I am really glad I spent the time to understand the practical side of prehistoric technology in more detail with Karl, and would highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in ancient skills and crafts."
Nick Taylor ? Workshop Student

Please contact me if you are interested in some/a workshop

  ICE contract
Posted by: beamo - 24th April 2006, 02:49 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (18)

Hi everyone

The ICE Conditions of Contract for Archaeological Investigation were published in 2004.

Has anyone got any direct experience of using this form of contract, either as an employer or as a contracted organisation ?

I am interested to find out if the Contract is seen as a useful, workable document, or has pitfalls that may not have been fully envisaged when the document was first put together.

I would point out that I have no experience of using it, so have no fixed opinion of its usefulness or otherwise.

  Just a quick question.....
Posted by: rachstebbs - 24th April 2006, 10:31 AM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (5)

Henge monuments and related sites of Great Britain: air photographic evidence and catalogue, A.F. Harding with G.E. Lee.

just wondering if anyone can help me out, I'm on placement in Malta at the minute (hey, what can I say!Wink) and trying to start some preliminary research for my dissertation, while i have time to spare. Having searched everywhere to buy this online, I have discovered it's out of print and I can't get it from the uni library as I'm not there! I was just wondering about the format, is it just text or is there a gazetteer too, as its the gazetteer i'm interested in, and will stop trawling online book shops if there isn't one!
Thanks
Rachel

  WHS
Posted by: Troll - 23rd April 2006, 12:33 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (16)

Nuff hangin about.....
Hunt those real WHS trowels down and rejuvenate them. They are out there and are hiding in some surprising places.Rather than spend months waiting for a manufacturer to replace the real thing with a generic copy-why not hunt down the real thing and reintroduce them to the field? Lets see if we cant arm all field archies with the appropriate tools for the job shall we? Stories of trowel liberation here please......where did you find it? Want to sell it?Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

  Requirements for Planning Advice
Posted by: BAJR Host - 21st April 2006, 04:43 PM - Forum: The Site Hut - Replies (1)

Looking for beefy requirements for Archaeological Advice in the Planning process

like the BV 205 checklist

http://extranet.audit-commission.gov.uk/...piId=PI310

here he have a hard indicator of archaeological advice giving 'points' to performance targets.

Any more??

Another day another WSI?
