On the slightly off topic of "the jobs already taken" I was once in the local pub with a digger friend when a council employed archaeologist came in and told him to come to an interview the next day for a job with the local council unit, for which he hadn't applied and the closing dead line had long passed, needless to say he got the job, so sometimes its not what you know but who you know!, i felt very sorry for the people who had travelled to be interviewed for a job that had been given to some one who didn't need it or hadn't even applied for the job.

..........as Smaze posts it works both ways.....in my experience (including a very recent one where interviewed) and that of colleagues, what i originally said i still stand by ......so no gambling ......! This has been happening for as long as i can recall .........definitely not what but who you know...........

monty ma friend.. it would be best to point out a simple fact...
They have sent out probably over 300 application packs... now consider this... would the HR repartment put in all that effort and time, for jobs that are already taken. ?? nope.
I can assure you that this is not he case.. and that is a fact - one that I am willing to put my reputation on. The competition will be fierce.. fair enough, most applicants will not get the job - but people will... based on applying from BAJR.. not having a word with a mate. This may (and does) happen... but not this one. Just to make it clear.

....well i have seen a HR dept send out many application packs (ok not 300 but well over 50 for 3 very short term digger posts in one instance) for jobs already taken !! THIS DOES HAPPEN !! i'm not inferring that EH jobs are by word of mouth with a mate, just stating that i have personally seen this happen .............. appalling practice ............but sadly absolutely true............

Just so we are clear that the EH jobs for this advert are not already taken. That the jobs do exist, and that people will be judged on merit.

maybe so.....but as i originally posted people should not be put off applying !...... we all know about the fixed/ring fenced (call it what you will) nature of contracts within local government and quangos......... it goes on and always will....

monty... I am sorry to press you... but either you catagorically say there is no " fixed/ring fenced (call it what you will) nature of contracts within local government and quangos" in this advert or you are basically saying I am not telling the truth. I cannot be blunter than that.
